Native PCB review workspace for Apple devices

Review PCB design and manufacturing files locally on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Import KiCad, DSN, IPC-2581, and ODB++ data into a local project library. Inspect boards in 2D and Data views, manage revisions, open KiCad boards in 3D, and export captures or source deliverables without relying on a web viewer.

PCBAtlas is positioned as an import-to-handoff workspace, not a one-screen PCB viewer or a generic mobile PCB tool.

App Store and TestFlight slots are being prepared. For now, the handbook and direct email are the reliable paths for evaluating the workflow.

03

Review in context

Use 2D as the main working view, check document and runtime summaries in Data, and open KiCad boards in 3D when spatial review is useful.

04

Export what you need

Export PNG or PDF captures, return original source files, or generate converted DSN and KiCad 8 outputs from the current revision.

PCBAtlas

Built for practical PCB review

The site now sells the working system: library, revisions, review surfaces, and export paths. Format support stays specific and scoped.

Local library

Project library, not just file opening

Create reusable board documents, keep multiple revisions under one project, and reopen previous work without hunting through loose source files.

2D main workflow

Precise 2D inspection

Pan, zoom, select, box-select, inspect object details with View Info, copy useful metadata, and prepare every export from the main 2D workspace.

Workbench

Find the signal in dense boards

Use Workbench to control visibility, selection filters, and object search. Locate, highlight, isolate, or clear targets across nets, layers, via definitions, and rule classes.

Data view

Document and runtime summaries

Use Data view to check the current document, revision, statistics, capabilities, and runtime state during import or review.

KiCad 3D

KiCad 3D review

Open KiCad .kicad_pcb boards in 3D, switch camera views, fit the board, copy scene information, and use proxy bodies when real component models are unavailable.

3D currently supports KiCad .kicad_pcb documents. Other formats remain reviewable through 2D and Data views.

Export and share

Captures, original sources, and converted outputs

Export PNG or PDF captures, return the original source files stored with the current revision, or generate converted DSN and KiCad 8 outputs.

PCBAtlas

Current format coverage

Coverage is split by import, review surface, and export so the site stays precise about what the current product actually does.

Input / Import

Current import paths.

KiCad .kicad_pcb

Supported as a new document or an appended revision. 2D, Data, and 3D are available.

DSN

Supported as a design import path. Can create a new document or append a revision.

IPC-2581 XML

Supported as design-side or manufacturing-side input. The app asks you to choose the import intent.

ODB++

Supported as a manufacturing archive or directory input.

Manufacturing package directories

Supported when the importer recognizes the package structure.

SES

Supported only as an appended flow from an existing document. SES cannot create a standalone new document.

View coverage

Current inspection surfaces.

2D

Main inspection path for supported documents and the only export entry point in the current version.

Data

Summary and runtime path for the current document, revision, and workspace state.

3D

Available for KiCad .kicad_pcb documents only. Non-KiCad sources show a clear unsupported state.

Output / Export

Current export paths.

PNG

2D capture export.

PDF

2D capture export.

Original-source export

Return the original source stored for the current revision, including DSN, KiCad, IPC-2581, ODB++, or Gerber / Drill source sets when present in the managed revision.

Converted export

Generate DSN or KiCad 8 outputs from the current workspace content.

Export starts from the 2D view in the current version. 3D and Data do not start export directly.

PCBAtlas

Why use a native local workspace instead of a web viewer?

Web viewers are convenient when sharing is easy and uploading is acceptable. PCBAtlas is built for the cases where board data should stay local, revisions need to be organized, and review work happens across Apple devices.

  • Open board data without uploading it to a browser-based viewer
  • Keep design and manufacturing revisions in a local library
  • Review dense boards with native 2D interaction
  • Inspect object details and copy useful metadata
  • Export captures, original sources, or converted deliverables
  • Use the same workflow across iPhone, iPad, and Mac

The core review workflow is local-first. Optional AI-related capabilities depend on your configured provider, API keys, network access, and outbound policy.

PCBAtlas

Made for review, handoff, and field checks

These are the situations the page should convert for: real review tasks, manufacturing handoff, and troubleshooting without spinning up a full EDA seat for everyone.

Design review

Open KiCad or DSN design data, inspect objects in 2D, narrow visibility through Workbench, and keep iterative revisions under the same project.

Manufacturing handoff

Import IPC-2581 or ODB++ manufacturing data, keep the original source package, and export the managed revision when it needs to be shared again.

QA and troubleshooting

Use Data summaries, object info, selection filters, and exported captures to communicate board issues without requiring everyone to open a full EDA environment.

Field and meeting review

Open board documents on iPhone or iPad, locate objects, check basic structure, and share captures or source deliverables when a full desktop workstation is not available.

PCBAtlas

Current scope

This section is there on purpose: it makes the product feel more trustworthy by stating what the current release does and does not do.

Not a layout editor

PCBAtlas is built for PCB review, organization, and handoff workflows. It does not replace a full PCB layout tool.

3D currently supports KiCad

3D currently supports KiCad .kicad_pcb documents only.

Export starts from 2D

The current version starts export from 2D. 3D and Data do not start export directly.

SES requires an existing revision

SES must be attached to an existing document revision and cannot create a standalone new document.

Original-source export depends on library state

Original-source export depends on the current revision being managed in the local library.

Large IPC-2581 inputs may be stopped early

Very large manufacturing inputs may be blocked by protective preflight checks instead of risking an OS-level memory termination.

PCBAtlas

FAQ

The FAQ explicitly prevents the most likely misreads: that this is a layout editor, that every format has 3D, or that export starts from anywhere.

Is PCBAtlas a PCB layout editor?

No. PCBAtlas is built for review, organization, inspection, and export workflows. It does not replace a full PCB layout tool.

What platforms are supported?

PCBAtlas is built for Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Which files can I import?

Current import paths include KiCad .kicad_pcb, DSN, IPC-2581 XML, ODB++ archives or directories, and recognized manufacturing-package directory data. SES is supported only when attached to an existing document revision.

Does 3D work for every format?

No. 3D currently supports KiCad .kicad_pcb documents. Other supported inputs can still be reviewed through 2D and Data views.

Can I export board data?

Yes. From 2D, PCBAtlas can export PNG or PDF captures, return original source files stored with the current revision, or generate converted DSN and KiCad 8 outputs.

Does PCBAtlas upload my board files to a web viewer?

The core review workflow is local-first and does not require a browser-based upload. Optional AI-related capabilities depend on your configured provider, API keys, network access, and outbound policy.
